Washington DC, February 21: US President Donald Trump announced that he is raising the worldwide tariff on countries from 10% to 15%, effective immediately.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized a recent US Supreme Court ruling that limited his tariff powers, calling it "a terrible decision." He emphasized that his administration will continue to implement legally permissible tariffs in the coming months, reinforcing his "Make America Great Again" agenda.
Trump's new tariff will affect countries, many of which he claims have "ripped off" the US for years. He also signed an executive order imposing a 10% global tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which allows temporary import surcharges to address trade deficits.
A White House official confirmed that India will be subject to the 10% tariff, with expectations that trade partners comply with US trade agreements. The US and India are also negotiating a broader trade agreement, including mutual commitments to reduce tariffs on various goods.
