Tehran, July 13:An Iranian newspaper reportedly published a graphic naming 13 foreign leaders in what it described as a "revenge list," alongside the first public statement attributed to Mojtaba Khamenei following reports concerning the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The claims contained in the publication have not been independently verified, and there has been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities endorsing the list.
According to the report, the graphic was published by Hamshahri, an Iranian daily newspaper, late on Saturday. It featured images of US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with crosshair graphics over their faces. Eleven other political and military figures were depicted wearing orange prison uniforms, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, US Central Command Commander Gen. Brad Cooper, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, and Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar.
The report attributed a statement to Mojtaba Khamenei saying, "Vengeance is the will of our nation and must inevitably be carried out." It also quoted him as stating that those named "will take to their graves the wish of a peaceful death in their beds." However, the statement did not identify any specific individuals as being responsible for his father's reported death.
Despite the publication of the graphic, there was no indication that it had been officially approved or adopted as Iranian government policy. The report also claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei had remained out of public view since before the recent hostilities and had reportedly been injured in the same strike that allegedly killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The publication coincided with media reports alleging that Iran had planned an assassination attempt against President Trump. According to CNN, citing unnamed US officials, intelligence agencies had been monitoring persistent threats against the US president. The broadcaster also reported that Israeli intelligence had shared information with Washington concerning what it described as a specific assassination plot.
The report further suggested that these intelligence concerns may have influenced changes to President Trump's travel arrangements following the NATO summit. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump was quoted as saying, "They want to take out the US leader — me. I'm on whatever list. I saw this morning I'm on every single one of their lists."
According to the report, these developments occurred amid renewed tensions following alleged violations of a ceasefire agreement. It also claimed that the United States carried out strikes against approximately 140 targets in response to attacks on commercial shipping, while Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed until what it described as the end of US interference in the region.
The article further stated that Tehran criticised several Gulf nations, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman, following the strikes. Qatar reportedly described the attacks as a "dangerous escalation," while Oman's state media said the government condemned the incident.
The report concluded by citing a post on X attributed to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, who wrote: "The era of one-sided deals is OVER. We told you: keep your word or pay the price. Reality is knocking." ( ANI Input)
