
Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), October 15: Marking the 93rd birth anniversary of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, tributes poured in from across the nation, especially in his hometown of Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Kalam, fondly known as the People's President and "Missile Man of India," was honored by his family, government officials, political leaders, and a large gathering of people from different walks of life.
The day began with a solemn ritual prayer, the recitation of the Dua, performed by Kalam's family members, along with Rameswaram Jamatars and Ulemas, at the iconic Kalam Memorial.
District Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon laid a wreath at the memorial and led the tribute ceremony, which included flower offerings from government officials, political representatives, and the general public. Kalam’s relatives, including his nephew Jainulauddin and niece Nazima Maraikayar, warmly welcomed all attendees.
As part of the tribute, a marathon was organized at the Kalam Memorial Complex, inaugurated by DC Simranjeet Singh Kahlon, where winners received prizes and certificates of appreciation. Special guests at the gathering were also presented with mementos by Kalam's nephews Seksalim and Sekhdawood.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), honored the memory of Dr. Kalam, praising his vision for a developed India. "His vision and thoughts will be of great help to the country in achieving the resolution of a developed India," said the Prime Minister. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid homage, calling Kalam a pioneer of India's missile program whose efforts continue to inspire millions.
In addition, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Minority Front, under the leadership of its National President Jamal Siddiqui, announced a nationwide campaign to honor Kalam’s legacy. Titled "India of Dr. Kalam's Dreams," this campaign will feature district-level programs and seminars at various headquarters, paying homage to the visionary scientist and his dreams for India's future.
