Technical surveillance and digital footprints enabled Delhi Police to apprehend Rahul Meena, the primary suspect in the brutal sexual assault and killing of an engineering graduate in Kailash Hills. The 23-year-old accused, a former domestic employee of the victim’s family, was tracked to a budget hotel in Dwarka after he utilised the facility’s wireless internet to communicate with a relative.

Investigators focused on the suspect’s online activity after discovering he had stolen a mobile phone in Rajasthan’s Alwar district just hours before reaching the national capital. Although he attempted to evade detection by disabling traditional calling services, Meena connected to an OYO hotel’s WiFi network. This specific internet protocol (IP) address allowed the cyber cell to pinpoint his exact location. The breakthrough occurred when technical teams monitored his activity on Instagram, where he was actively messaging a cousin in Gurugram.

Security footage from the upscale South Delhi residence showed the accused entering the premises using a hidden smart card. Knowing the family’s morning routine, he accessed the third-floor apartment while the parents were at the gym. Crime records indicate that the victim, a Civil Services aspirant, was strangled with a mobile charging cable. This incident has reignited discussions regarding the mandatory police verification of domestic staff in urban centers like Bhubaneswar and Delhi, where migrant labor is frequently employed in high-security zones.

Officers revealed that the family had dismissed Meena two months ago due to his persistent gambling debts and habit of borrowing money from neighbors. Driven by a perceived grudge and a desperate need for cash to settle online gaming arrears, he allegedly fled the scene with ₹2.5 lakh. Police eventually intercepted him in Dwarka, putting an end to a 24-hour manhunt that spanned two states.
