Bhubaneswar, September 19: As many as 40 tourists were seriously injured after a tourist bus overturned near Bhudurubani on the Udala-Nilagiri road in Balasore district on Thursday.
According to reports, the bus was carrying more than 60 tourists from West Bengal. The tourists had visited Devakunda near Udala in Mayurbhanj district and were travelling to Panchalingeshwar in Nilagiri, Balasore district.
The accident occurred near Chhatrapur at Bhudurubani when the bus reportedly lost control and overturned on the roadside. More than 60 passengers were injured in the accident, with over 30 reportedly sustaining serious injuries.
Following the incident, Barhampur police, fire personnel from Nilagiri and local residents launched a rescue operation. The injured were initially shifted to Barhampur Hospital, while those in critical condition were later referred to Fakir Mohan Medical College and Hospital in Balasore for further treatment.
Rescue operations were underway as reports suggested that some passengers might still be trapped beneath the overturned bus.
