Chaotic crease misunderstanding leads to Tilak Varma dismissal at Indore T20I

Bizarre boundary misunderstanding forces Tilak Varma into a shocking dismissal

Indian vice-captain Tilak Varma departed in a highly unusual fashion during Sunday’s third T20I against West Indies in Indore. Complete confusion over a boundary save cost him his wicket in the 17th over of the innings. Axar Patel had just flicked Gudakesh Motie towards the deep backward square-leg boundary. Fielder Kamil Pooran executed a brilliant diving stop right at the rope. Both Indian batters mistakenly assumed the ball had crossed the fence for four runs. They stopped running completely and stood casually outside their respective creases, ignoring the live play. Realising the ball remained inside the playing area, Pooran quickly hurled it back toward the batter’s end. Axar sensed the danger just in time and scrambled safely back to his ground. Tilak remained completely oblivious to the developing situation at the non-striker's end. Shai Hope collected the initial throw and smartly relayed it back to Motie. West Indies bowlers promptly removed the bails while the young left-hander stood miles away from safety. Following a brief television replay, the third umpire confirmed the boundary save and officially declared the batter run out for 28 runs from 16 deliveries.

Such brain fade moments rarely occur in modern international cricket where boundary rope awareness is usually exceptionally sharp. Despite this unfortunate run out, the hosts maintained their aggressive batting intent throughout the innings. Opener Abhishek Sharma dominated the bowling attack with an explosive 69 off just 30 balls, striking six boundaries and five huge sixes. Ishan Kishan contributed a rapid 37 runs from 18 balls, while Nitish Kumar Reddy added a quick 21. These combined efforts helped India post a formidable total of 223. The five-match series stood perfectly balanced before this critical encounter.
