Thiruvananthapuram, May 17: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor affirmed his commitment to lead one of seven parliamentary delegations formed to present India’s stance against cross-border terrorism, under Operation Sindoor. This comes despite opposition from his party, which objected to the government bypassing their suggested names.
Tharoor stated that while the Congress leadership is entitled to its opinion on his inclusion, he remains focused on serving the nation. “It’s an honour to be entrusted with this responsibility. This mission is above politics—it’s about national unity in the face of terrorism,” he said.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh earlier criticized the Centre for excluding names proposed by the party and termed the move as “dishonest.”
The delegations, involving MPs across party lines, aim to highlight India’s unified stand against terrorism to global audiences. Operation Sindoor was launched after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, followed by Indian strikes in PoJK on May 7.
