Agra, Sep 28: Swami Chaitanyanand Saraswati, also known as Partha Sarathy, has been arrested in Agra on charges of sexually harassing multiple female students, officials confirmed on Sunday.
Chaitanyanand is the director of the well-known Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management, located in Delhi’s upscale Vasant Kunj area. He is accused of targeting female students enrolled in postgraduate management diploma programs under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) scholarship scheme.
Authorities revealed that Chaitanyanand fled the institute on August 4, soon after the Indian Air Force headquarters lodged a complaint accusing him of molesting female students.
Investigators stated that he would summon female students to his room late at night and threaten to fail them or lower their grades if they resisted his advances.
Police have recorded statements from three institute wardens, who are accused of assisting Chaitanyanand in deleting incriminating messages.
WhatsApp conversations recovered from the phones of approximately 50 female students uncovered abuse spanning 16 years, including sexually explicit texts and incidents of forced physical contact.
Further allegations involve the deletion of CCTV footage, with the institute’s DVR sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for detailed examination.
In early August, 17 women filed complaints at the Defence Colony Police Station, accusing the so-called Delhi Baba of harassing postgraduate management diploma students receiving EWS scholarships.
Officials noted that Chaitanyanand has allegedly preyed on women for nearly two decades, having evaded previous molestation charges in 2009 and 2016.
