Puri, Aug 3: On the sacred occasion of Pratham Shravan Somvar, internationally acclaimed sand artist and Padma Shri awardee Sudarsan Pattnaik created a magnificent 8-foot-high devotional sand sculpture dedicated to Lord Shiva at Puri Beach.

The sand artwork carries the divine message “Har Har Mahadev” and portrays Lord Shiva in a peaceful meditative form, symbolising spiritual awakening, divine energy and harmony. The sculpture beautifully incorporates elements associated with Mahadev, including the Shiva Linga, Kanwariyas carrying the holy Kanwar, Trishul, Damaru, crescent moon, serpent, Rudraksha beads and the sacred River Ganga flowing from Lord Shiva’s matted hair.

Created with the support of students from the Sudarsan Sand Art Institute, the sculpture celebrates the spiritual significance of Shravan, a holy month when millions of devotees across the country observe fasts and offer prayers to Lord Shiva. The artwork highlights the importance of Pratham Shravan Somvar, considered one of the most revered days for Mahadev worship.

Speaking about his creation, Sudarsan Pattnaik said that he prayed to Lord Shiva for global peace, good health, happiness and prosperity for everyone. Through the sand sculpture, he aimed to spread the message of faith, hope and spiritual harmony among people worldwide.

A recipient of the Padma Shri award, Sudarsan Pattnaik has represented India at more than 65 international sand sculpture championships, festivals and cultural events. Through his unique art form, he continues to promote India’s rich cultural heritage while conveying messages of devotion, peace and humanity.
