Panaji, August 23: Chief Justice of India B. R. Gavai on Saturday emphasized that professional success depends on determination, hard work, and commitment, not examination ranks.
Speaking at the golden jubilee of V. M. Salgaocar College of Law in Panaji, he shared how he often skipped law classes during his college days but still excelled through self-study.
Citing his own journey—from a third-rank holder to becoming CJI—Gavai urged students to value dedication over marks. He highlighted improvements in legal education with practical training and five-year courses. Still, he stressed the need to address issues like low stipends for junior lawyers and to strengthen legal education nationwide.
He also called for legal aid to reach remote areas, ensuring citizens are aware of their rights and remedies.
