Bhubaneswar, Aug 1: The State Transport Department has launched a major enforcement drive against habitual traffic offenders, announcing that vehicles with more than five unpaid challans will face cancellation of registration if fines are not cleared promptly.
According to officials, around 2,000 vehicle owners have already been served notices, with over 10,000 more set to receive similar warnings in the coming weeks. The department has compiled a comprehensive list of violators, and notices will be dispatched over the next two months.
As per the directive, vehicle owners receiving the notice must settle their outstanding fines within 15 days. Failure to comply will result in the cancellation of the vehicle’s registration.
The crackdown also targets vehicles operating without valid documents such as fitness certificates, permits, insurance, or pollution control certificates. These vehicles will be flagged using e-detection systems at toll gates, and challans will be issued on the spot.
“If any vehicle has more than five unpaid challans and the dues are not cleared, registration will be canceled,” confirmed Lal Mohan Sethi, Additional Commissioner of Transport (Enforcement).
The department urges all vehicle owners to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and clear any pending dues to avoid strict penalties.
