Bhubaneswar, May 10: The southwest monsoon is likely to make an early onset over Kerala this year, with forecasts indicating a probable arrival around May 27, according to weather expert Umashankar Das. The projection, however, comes with a model-based uncertainty margin of ±4 days.
Sharing the update on microblogging platform ‘X’, Das stated that the monsoon could advance to the Indian mainland earlier than usual, marking a potentially early beginning to the rainy season.
Historically, the monsoon onset over Kerala has varied across years:
May 30 in 2024
June 8 in 2023
May 29 in 2022
June 3 in 2021
June 1 in 2020
The early arrival this year could have a significant impact on the agricultural calendar and water resource planning across the country.
