Bhubaneswar, Sept 11: Southern Odisha is likely to experience another spell of intense rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy showers in several districts over the coming days.
According to the IMD, Malkangiri is expected to receive very heavy rainfall on Thursday, while Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts may also witness heavy downpours.
The weather department attributed the forecast to a cyclonic circulation that has developed over southern Odisha and the northern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh. This system is likely to trigger widespread rainfall across different parts of the state.
On September 12, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar are expected to receive significant rainfall. The IMD has also warned of thunderstorms with lightning in several areas across coastal, interior, and southern Odisha.
Further, on September 13 and 14, parts of northern and coastal Odisha are likely to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, the IMD said.
Residents in the affected regions have been advised to stay alert and follow official updates as weather conditions may rapidly change.
