Sonepur, June 24: Sonepur Police have once again achieved a major success in their crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking by intercepting two cars loaded with ganja after a dramatic chase. The vehicles, both of the same colour, were reportedly transporting the contraband from the Boudh region through Subarnapur district to destinations outside Odisha using different routes.
According to sources, Subarnapur Superintendent of Police (SP) received specific intelligence about the movement of the two vehicles. Acting on the tip-off, the SP personally led the operation and pursued one of the suspected vehicles travelling through the Binika route. During the chase, the driver abandoned the car near Sahajbahal village under Pujahari area of Binika police station and fled the scene.
Meanwhile, another vehicle travelling via the Ulunda route was also chased by police. The driver deserted the ganja-laden car near Jharbahali Chhak and managed to escape.
Police recovered 301 kilograms of ganja from the vehicle seized at Sahajbahal under Binika police station limits. In the second vehicle, intercepted near Jharbahali village under Ulunda police station, authorities found 271 packets of ganja. The exact weight of the seized contraband is currently being determined in the presence of a magistrate.
Officials estimate that the total market value of the ganja seized from both locations is around ₹4 crore. Police have launched an investigation to trace the absconding drivers and identify the larger network involved in the interstate smuggling operation.
