Sambalpur, Jul 5: In a horrifying act, a man was beaten to death allegedly by his son in Sanlangabahal village under Jamankira police limits of Sambalpur district.
The accused son, identified as Sanjit Munda, has been detained by police, while the motive behind the gruesome killing is still under investigation.
According to sources, the victim, Donika Munda, was the only person living in the house along with his son Sanjit. The incident reportedly took place last Sunday afternoon, but the crime came to light only two days later when villagers grew suspicious after not witnessing Donika.
Police suspect that a verbal altercation between father and son may have escalated, leading Sanjit to attack his father with a stick, killing him on the spot.
After committing the crime, Sanjit reportedly locked the house and stayed inside without informing anyone. Later, a local ward member, acting on suspicion, alerted the Jamankira police.
Upon reaching the spot, officers discovered Donika's body lying inside the house. His body was recovered and sent for post-mortem. Police have taken Sanjit into custody for questioning.
A police official said, “We are conducting a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the murder. The accused is being interrogated, and forensic evidence is being collected from the site.”
