Singham Again Review: Action-Thriller, Full Entertainment with Ramayana morals!

Bhubaneswar: Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn have been the Jodi No 1 in Bollywood. Both had given a string of hits that raked the moolah in the box officce.

Both have a very intense personality. Rohit and Ajay are sons of well known film artistes. Ajay Devgn is son of famous fight director Veeru Devgn, Rohit is lad of stuntman MB Shetty, famous for his action in Don and many other memorable fims opposite Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna.

The surefire success chemistry ignited the B-town screens on Diwali 2024 as Singham Again hits the silver screen with all action, glitz and glamour. The cameos by Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar , Tiger Shroff and above all Chulbul Pandey aka Salman Khan had been the icing on the cake moment for the Copverse movie.

The film starts showing Bajirao Singham (Ajay Devgan) leading his corps ‘Shiva’ launching an operation in Jammu and Kashmir to nab dreaded terrorist Omar Hafiz (Jackie Shroff). He manages to nab Omar and puts him behind bars. He then asks ACP Shakti Shetty (Deepika Padukone) to arrest his three trusted lieutenants – Sarath (Ankit Mohan), Ranga (Chetan Chitnis) and Birju (R. Siddarth).

However, the arrest of Omar by Singham made Omar’s grandson, Zubair Hafiz (Arjun Kapoor) breathe fire. He swears revenge and sets Shakti Shetty’s police station on fire, killing several police officers.

Omar’s reprehensible act brought him under muscular and intense gaze of Singham. But the twist in the movie came when Singham while planning his strategy to nab Zubair, a drug lord, from Sri Lanka, the latter abducts Singham’s wife, Avni (Kareena Kapoor Khan) as ransom. Zubair asks Singham to release his grandfather from prison in exchange for Avni.

Known for his incorrigible and bravo image, the unputdownable Bajirao Singham planned a mission to get his wife safely back from Zubair and also arrest the latter and bring him to India while, obviously, not letting Omar Hafiz be set free.

In his mission Omar or Danger Lanka, he is aided by other dare devil cops of copverse fame, Veer Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar), Simmba (Ranveer Singh), Shakti Shetty and Satya Bali (Tiger Shroff).

RAMAYANA PARALLELS

Story by Kshitij Patwardhan has been written with so dexterity that it juxtapositioned the same with finesse with that of the epic Ramayana. The combination was done so wonderfully that the Ramayana runs on screen parallelly with the story of Singham versus Zubair.  This concurrent storytelling holds the moral compass, even while delivering the modern day full entertainment to cinephiles. The story sketches and amalgamates very vividly the characters from great epic Ramayana to contemporary age superman cops.

Such a flair combo of moral compass plus action-entertainment gives Singham Again more depth and holds out a special appeal for women and family audience. The only drawback is that the plot becomes a bit predictable at times.

The banter between Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh and comic shows by the latter did bring the right humour in the tension-ridden drama, especially after interval. The dialoges are superb. Dialgoues are written by Shantanu Srivastava, MM Zaveri, V Ghodgaonkar and Rohit Shetty.

STAR SHOW

Ajay Devgan again excels in the role of Bajirao Singham. He relived up to the image of a fiery superman cop. His performance is extraordinary. Kareena Kapoor Khan looks gorgeous as Avni.  Akshay Kumar provides lively support in the role of Veer Sooryavanshi. And Ranveer Singh often brings the house down with laughter as Simmba. His dialogues greatly contribute to the comic moments of the movie. Tiger Shroff is pretty endearing in the role of Satya Bali.

ARJUN KAPOOR COPYING “GABBAR SINGH” STYLE?

The main antagonist of Bajirao Singham, Arjun Kapoor, who played the role of Zubair Hafiz, seems to have taken inspiration from Sholay’s Gabbar Singh. It seems he is trying to recreate the Gabbar magic. The beard and the hairstyle match with Gabbar Singh. The laugh and smile of Arjun Kapoor has also an uncanny resemblance with Gabbar Singh of Sholay. He plays the villain pretty effectively, but cannot recreate the Gabbar Singh halo on screen.

CHULBUL PANDEY

It seems in order to keep the film engaging till the last scene, Rohit Shetty had put the cameo scene of Salman Khan to the fag end of the film. The Bhaijaan fans waited for Chulbul Pandey’s entry to mark a whistle load celebration. Salman is not at all connected to the plot of Singham Again, but his cameo is only to give an indication of what to expect in the next Cop Universe film.

Above all, Rohit Shetty’s direction has been excellent. The flying cars and the larger than life drama made Singham an action thriller and a fullsome entertainer for the cinephiles of all gender and age group.
