Shukla Bids Farewell to Space Station, Hailing a "Confident and Proud" India and a Successful Collaborative Mission

Astronaut Shukla Shares Vision of a Fearless India in ISS Farewell

As he prepared for his journey back to Earth, Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla delivered a heartfelt farewell address from the International Space Station (ISS), offering a powerful perspective on his nation's progress and the spirit of global cooperation in space. His message celebrated a successful mission defined by scientific achievement and a profound sense of camaraderie among the international crew.

From his unique vantage point 400 kilometers above the planet, Shukla shared an inspiring vision of his homeland. "Today, India looks ambitious from space, fearless, confident, and proud," he stated, adding a poignant reference to the iconic patriotic song, "India is still saare jahan se accha (the best in the world)." His words painted a picture of a nation on an upward trajectory, seen through the eyes of one of its pioneering explorers. Shukla described his time in orbit as an "incredible journey," emphasizing that while his personal mission was concluding, the larger journey for India's space program was just gaining momentum.

Celebrating a Mission of Science and Unity

Reflecting on his tenure aboard the ISS, Shukla expressed deep gratitude for the collaborative environment that made the mission's success possible. He praised the professionalism and support of his crewmates from different nations. "It has been made incredible by people on the space station," he said. "It was a joy to be working with professionals like you."

The mission itself was a blend of rigorous scientific research and extensive public outreach. "We have done a lot of science, outreach, and always looked out on Earth—it seems magical to me," Shukla noted. He extended his thanks to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its vision, the researchers and students who contributed to the experiments, and NASA for providing crucial training and logistical support. He stressed that such missions have far-reaching benefits that extend beyond science, strengthening international ties and boosting national pride.

This sentiment of unity was a recurring theme. Fellow astronauts echoed Shukla’s reflections on the power of collaboration. Hungarian astronaut Tibor Kapu spoke emotionally about the bonds formed in orbit. "We made friends in space, shared inside jokes... We were able to do it because we are people collaborating in space in the name of science," he said. Ax-4 commander Peggy Whitson also lauded the spirit of camaraderie and mutual learning that defined the crew's time together.

As Shubhanshu Shukla prepares for his homecoming, his farewell serves as a powerful testament to what can be achieved through shared purpose. His experience underscores a dual message: one of immense pride in India's growing capabilities and another celebrating the universal human quest for knowledge that transcends borders.
