Bhubaneswar, July 24: The Odisha Vigilance on Friday arrested a woman Revenue Inspector (RI) in Kendrapara district red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,500 in exchange for issuing a favourabe report in a mutation case.
The accused RI, identified as Sai Darshini Lenka posted at Kaupada Circle of Kendrapara district, was arrested on Friday during a planned trap laid by the anti-graft wing.
According to officials, the complainant had purchased a piece of land from two joint owners a few years back. He had applied on June 24 for mutation of his purchased land to get Record of Rights (RoR) in his favour. Since then, he had been requesting the accused RI to dispose of the mutation case.
It is alleged that Sai Darshini, demanded bribe of Rs 6,000 to furnish favourable report and facilitate issuance of ROR in his favour. When the applicant expressed his inability to pay Rs 6,000 the accused reduced the bribe amount to Rs 5,500.
Troubled by the demand, the applicant lodged a complaint with the Vigilance. After a preliminary verification of the complaint, the Vigilance a strategy and laid a trap.
As per the plan, today, the complainant was sent to the accused with the bribe amount. The moment Sai Darshini accepted the cash, Vigilance team, already stationed nearby, apprehended her red-handed.
The Vigilance has registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018 and is continuing further interrogation.
Investigators are also conducting simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Sai Darshini on possible disproportionate assets.
