Puri, Aug 19: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) is set to celebrate Gamha Purnima, also known as Raksha Bandhan, today, marking the birthday of Lord Balabhadra or Balram.
As per tradition, Devi Subhadra ties rakhi to her brothers, Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra, on this auspicious occasion.
The Patara Bisoyi servitors prepare the 'Pata Rakhis' that Devi Subhadra uses for the ceremony. The preparation begins after the completion of the Chitalagi Amavasya rituals in the temple.
The temple administration provides the 'Basunga Pata' (cloth), which is then dyed in vibrant red, green, purple, and yellow colours.
The servitors meticulously craft four-layered Rakhis, with the yellow and red Rakhi designated for Lord Jagannath, while the purple-blue combination is reserved for Lord Balabhadra.
