Bhubaneswar, June 6: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today urged newly appointed government employees to serve the public with sincerity, compassion, and dedication.
Addressing a large gathering during a recruitment ceremony held at the Rail Auditorium in Bhubaneswar, the Chief Minister advised the recruits to always honour their parents’ blessings and never cause distress to their families.
He also reminded them of their duty towards the underprivileged, emphasizing that timely justice for the poor must never be forgotten.
A total of 1,294 new employees were appointed across seven departments during the event. These included:
826 postgraduate teachers under the School and Mass Education Department
224 officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department, including assistant professors, clinical psychologists, psychiatric social workers, nursing officers, and drug inspectors
63 officers from the Commerce and Transport Department, including motor vehicle junior inspectors and traffic constables
81 instructors under the Skill Development Department
49 Panchayat Development Officers under the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department
32 excise sub-inspectors
19 recruits in various roles under the Labour Department
CM Majhi reiterated his government’s commitment to employment generation in both public and private sectors.
“Since assuming office, we have prioritized the creation of job opportunities. Our goal is to fill 1.5 lakh government posts within five years. In the first two years, 65,000 positions will be filled, and including today’s appointments, we have already recruited 27,428 individuals,” he said.
He highlighted that the government has passed a bill in the Assembly to ensure transparency in recruitment and has extended the upper age limit for government jobs to 42 years. “This reflects our transparent approach. More recruitment drives are on the way, and the process is ongoing,” the Chief Minister added.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state has been organizing continuous recruitment drives, CM Majhi noted.
He also pointed out that while only 2% of job opportunities are created in the government sector, the remaining 98% emerge in the private and industrial sectors.
“Odisha will create at least 13 lakh jobs in the industrial sector in the coming years. Our youth must become industry-ready,” he said. The "Utkarsh Odisha" initiative has already opened up 90,000 job opportunities in the industrial sector within just four months, he added.
Encouraging the new recruits to maintain integrity, the Chief Minister stressed the government's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He advised them to work with commitment and empathy, and to actively listen to people’s needs and concerns. “From today, you become a part of the government machinery and will have the chance to serve the people of Odisha,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo emphasized that all government efforts are directed towards serving common people. “Your good work will become part of Odisha’s journey toward a brighter future,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Prabhati Parida reaffirmed the government's commitment to employment, reminding the recruits that their salaries are funded by public money.
“We are all public servants. Let’s work together as one team for a developed Odisha,” she said.
