SEMICON India 2026: NIT Rourkela’s Indigenous Chip Designs Earn Odisha CM’s Praise

Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed pride over the indigenous semiconductor chip designs developed by NIT Rourkela being showcased among India’s homegrown semiconductor innovations at SEMICON India.

In a post on X, Majhi described the achievement as a moment of immense pride for the people of Odisha and said it reflects the talent, innovation and research capabilities of the state’s institutions.

NIT Rourkela has contributed two integrated circuit designs to India’s growing semiconductor ecosystem. The institute said its Present Encryption Core IC (C2S0017) and VGA Amplifier Sensor Circuit IC (C2S0018) were featured at the SEMICON India event. Both designs were developed under the Chip-to-Startup (C2S) Programme of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

Congratulating the scientists, researchers and the entire NIT Rourkela team, Majhi said Odisha is proud to see its talent contributing to India’s semiconductor journey.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

“Proud to see NIT Rourkela’s indigenous chip designs featured among the Made-in-India semiconductor chips showcased at SEMICON India,” Majhi said in his post.

He added that the development demonstrates the research and innovation potential of Odisha’s educational institutions and their contribution to India’s push towards technological self-reliance.

What NIT Rourkela’s Chips Do

The Present Encryption Core IC is a lightweight encryption design aimed at resource-constrained applications, including IoT, RFID, e-payments, healthcare and sensor networks.

The VGA Amplifier Sensor Circuit IC is designed for biomedical and IoT applications and incorporates technologies including a capacitive interface, accelerometer connectivity, operational transconductance amplifier components and energy-harvesting mechanisms.

The achievement comes as India expands its semiconductor ecosystem, with SEMICON India 2026 focusing on chip manufacturing, design, packaging, equipment and other parts of the semiconductor supply chain.
