Mumbai, June 1: On the birth anniversary of his late mother and legendary actress Nargis Dutt, actor Sanjay Dutt paid an emotional tribute on Sunday through a heartfelt Instagram post.
Sanjay shared a series of nostalgic photos on his social media, including a classic black-and-white portrait of Nargis and a cherished throwback image featuring both his parents—Nargis and actor Sunil Dutt. Alongside the images, he wrote, "Happy birthday maa, I miss you everyday and love you more."
Born on June 1, 1929, Nargis is remembered as one of Indian cinema’s most iconic and versatile performers, known for her powerful portrayals in both comedic and dramatic roles. She began her film journey at the age of five with a small role in Talash-E-Haq (1935), but her acting career truly took off with Tamanna (1942). Over the next few decades, she became a celebrated leading lady, culminating in her final performance in the 1967 psychological thriller Raat Aur Din.
In the early 1980s, Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away on May 3, 1981.
Nargis and Sunil Dutt's love story is as memorable as their on-screen collaborations. The two grew close during the filming of the 1957 classic Mother India, particularly after Sunil reportedly saved Nargis from a fire on set. Their bond deepened during recovery, and they were married on March 11, 1958.
