Bhubaneswar, September 30: The rescued orangutans are adapting well to Odisha’s climate and showing signs of improved health, Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia said on Tuesday.
The Minister said specialist veterinary teams are conducting regular health check-ups of the orangutans, while their body weight has also increased.
“The climate of Odisha suits the orangutans. Special care is being taken, and they are being monitored round the clock. Their weight has also increased,” Khuntia said.
He further said that DNA tests of the orangutans would be conducted shortly to determine their origin.
“Contact has been established with the GSI for conducting the DNA tests. Samples will be collected soon and sent for examination. Once the DNA test report is received, it will be clear which country the orangutans came from. The Government of India will also be informed about the findings,” the Minister said.
Khuntia added that the DNA report would help establish the origin of the rescued primates and provide clarity on where they were brought from.
