New Delhi, Aug 3: The government of India has dismissed as false a viral WhatsApp message claiming the RBI has ordered banks to stop dispensing ₹500 notes through ATMs by September 2025.

The Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit clarified that the RBI has issued no such directive, and ₹500 notes remain legal tender. The fake message also falsely claimed that most ATMs would stop issuing ₹500 notes by 2026.

Authorities urged the public not to fall for such misinformation and to verify any financial updates through official channels like the RBI or PIB.
