Rayagada, August 18: Rayagada Police have achieved a major breakthrough in a series of theft and robbery cases with the arrest of 12 accused persons from different parts of the district.
Police have recovered 230 grams of gold ornaments, 581 grams of silver, three luxury cars, 12 mobile phones, a Bullet motorcycle and several household items from their possession.
Rayagada SP Raj Prasad shared the details during a press conference on Monday. According to the SP, the arrested accused are from the Kashipur, Kalyansinghpur, Kolnara and Rayagada police station areas. They have 15 cases registered against them at various police stations, police said.
The accused allegedly targeted vacant houses and disabled CCTV cameras before carrying out the thefts. Following a series of such incidents, police formed a special team and took the assistance of cyber experts to track down the suspects.
During the investigation, police also found that the accused allegedly melted the stolen gold ornaments and used the gold to obtain loans from different gold loan companies.
The investigation is still underway, and SP Raj Prasad said that more members of the gang are likely to be arrested soon.
