Raksha Bandhan 2025: Date, muhurat, & Bhadra timings

Raksha Bandhan, the festival celebrating the sacred bond between brothers and sisters, will be observed on Saturday, 9 August 2025. According to the Hindu calendar, the Purnima Tithi will begin at 2:12 PM on 8 August and conclude at 1:24 PM on 9 August.

Astrologers suggest that the most auspicious time to tie the Rakhi this year falls between 5:47 AM and 1:24 PM on 9 August. This period aligns with the Aparahna (late afternoon) muhurat, which is traditionally considered ideal for performing the ceremony. Those who miss this window may also opt for the Pradosh period in the early evening.

Devotees are advised to avoid tying Rakhi during the Bhadra period, which is regarded as inauspicious. In 2025, Bhadra will remain in effect from 2:12 PM on 8 August until 1:52 AM on 9 August. As the Bhadra period ends well before sunrise on the day of Raksha Bandhan, families can conduct the rituals in the morning without concern.

The festival, rooted in love, protection, and familial harmony, is celebrated across India and among Indian communities worldwide. Sisters prepare a decorated puja thali with Rakhi, roli, rice, sweets, and a diya, while brothers offer gifts and vow to protect their sisters in return.
