New Delhi, July 8: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit Manipur on Monday, marking his third visit to the northeastern state.

He will travel from the national capital to Silchar by flight, and from there, he will proceed to Jiribam district, where fresh violence occurred on June 6, according to Manipur Congress chief K. Meghachandra.

Rahul Gandhi's Itinerary:

  • Morning: Rahul Gandhi will visit several relief camps in Jiribam district. After this, he will return to Silchar airport and take a flight to Imphal.

  • Afternoon: Upon arriving in Imphal, Gandhi will head to Churachandpur district to interact with people living in relief camps.

  • Evening: From Churachandpur, he will travel by road to Moirang in Bishnupur district to visit additional relief camps. He will then return to Imphal, where a meeting with Governor Anusuiya Uikey is being planned.

  • Other Meetings: Gandhi will also meet with Manipur leaders during his visit.

  • This visit follows Gandhi's trips to Manipur in June 2023 and for the start of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra earlier this year.

Rahul Gandhi addresses Manipur violence in Parliament:

Initiating a debate in the Lower House of Parliament on the Motion of Thanks for the President's address earlier this week, Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of pushing Manipur into a "civil war" through its policies and politics. He criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting the state since the violence began.

"You have immersed Manipur into a civil war. Manipur has been burnt by you, your policies, and your politics," Gandhi stated. "For the prime minister, there is no state of Manipur. We urged the prime minister to give a message, to go there. But no. You cannot get a reply (from the prime minister)."

PM Modi’s response:

In response to the debate in Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Modi asserted that the Centre is working with the state government and other stakeholders to restore normalcy in Manipur. He mentioned that more than 500 people have been arrested, and over 11,000 FIRs have been registered in connection with the violence.
