The 43-year-old actor drowned on March 29 during the shoot of a television serial at Talsari Beach near Digha, leaving the film and television fraternity in shock.
Balasore Additional SP Debajyoti Dash confirmed that a formal complaint has been registered and an investigation is underway. “The case has been registered on the basis of the report submitted by the complainant, Priyanka Sarkar, the wife of the late Rahul Arunoday Banerjee. Investigation has started and is currently in its preliminary stage. Balasore Police are making all-out efforts to uncover the truth behind this incident,” he said.
In response to Banerjee’s death, the Bengali entertainment industry has announced an indefinite strike starting April 7, demanding better safety measures on sets. The decision was formalized by the West Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum during an emergency meeting on April 5 at Technicians’ Studio in Kolkata.
The meeting saw participation from prominent industry figures, including actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, along with directors, producers, and television channel representatives. The strike follows a massive protest march in Kolkata on April 5, where members of the film and television fraternity called for accountability and justice for Banerjee’s untimely death.
