Balasore, May 21: Private-sector defence company Nibe Limited has achieved a significant milestone with the successful firing trials of its Suryastra long-range rockets at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Balasore district, Odisha.
The trials included two variants: one with a range of 150 km and another capable of 300 km. Officials reported that the 150 km variant achieved an impressive Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 1.5 metres, while the 300 km version recorded a CEP of 2 metres, demonstrating exceptional accuracy.
Conducted as part of a procurement order by the Indian Army, the successful tests validate the Suryastra rocket system as a reliable deep-strike weapon. The system enhances the Army’s long-range precision fire capability, complementing existing tactical ballistic and cruise missiles.
Defence analysts have welcomed the development, noting that integrating such long-range rocket artillery with the Indian Air Force’s offensive counter-air operations could significantly boost India’s combat effectiveness along strategic borders.
The Suryastra trials highlight the growing role of India’s private defence sector in developing advanced indigenous weapon systems, marking a crucial step towards strengthening the nation’s defence preparedness and self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
