Sambalpur, May 26: A 45-year-old priest has been arrested by police in Odisha's Sambalpur district following allegations that he raped an 11-year-old girl inside a temple.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Sunday in the Jamankira area temple premises, has sparked outrage and concern across the region. The victim's family reported that the assault took place when the minor accompanied her father to the temple to assist with daily rituals.
According to reports, after noon prayers and lunch, the young girl was resting near the Bhoga Ghar when the priest allegedly raped her. Following the family's complaint, Jamankira police immediately arrested the accused and launched a formal investigation.
A medical examination for the minor has been scheduled, and the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation.
