Bhubaneswar, Ap 29: Preparations are in full swing for the construction of the ceremonial chariots at Chandan Yatra. The craftsmen, led by Vishwakarma experts, are shaping the wooden framework of the chariots with precision, using specialized tools like chisels and wedges. The process involves carving key structural components, with certain wedges referred to as “agar wedges” to ensure proper fitting of the beams.
At the Dolabedi Hall, the workers are busy crafting the wheels of the chariots. Strong wheel hubs are being prepared, and axle supports and pivots are being carefully aligned. Each chariot requires precisely fitted components, including 84 wedges and supports for the four wheels of three chariots, all tailored in varying sizes to match the dimensions of the chariots’ framework.
The chariot structures are reinforced in such a way that the joints remain stable when the chariots are assembled. The construction of the Taladhwaj, Debadalana, and Nandighosha chariots is progressing simultaneously. Once the Nrusingha Chaturdashi festival concludes, the chariot work will accelerate further to ensure timely completion for the upcoming celebrations.
