Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 18th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention in Bhubaneswar, on January 9, while President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the valedictory session on January 10, an official statement announced on Sunday.
The event, organized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in partnership with the Odisha government, will run from January 8 to 10 and serve as a significant platform for connecting with the Indian diaspora worldwide. This year's theme is "Diaspora's Contribution to a Viksit Bharat," highlighting the vital role of the Indian diaspora in India's progress.
During the convention, President Murmu will confer the prestigious ‘Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025’ to members of the Indian diaspora in recognition of their exceptional contributions to India and abroad.
The convention will also feature a special virtual address by the Chief Guest, Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will remotely flag off the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train launched under the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana.
This train will depart from Delhi’s Nizamuddin Railway Station and journey across multiple destinations in India over three weeks, offering members of the Indian diaspora an immersive travel experience.
The event has attracted participation from Indian diaspora members from over 50 countries, underscoring its international significance.
