Police-public clash in Cuttack during a rally, police resort to lathi charge

​​​​​​​Cuttack, Oct 5: In an odd incident in Cuttack, the antique city famous for brotherhood and harmony, a confrontation took place between police and public on Sunday during a public rally.

The police resorted to a mild lathi charge to disperse mob, and keep up normalcy as at least 6 cops including the DCP got injured during the faceoff.

According to souces, some social outfits reportedly led by the VHP were taking out a rally in the city. As no permission was accorded for the rally, police forces stopped the rally near the Daragha Bazaar. Following this, a confrontation with police broke out in which several cops along with the DCP, were injured.

Responding to it, and as a retaliatory measure,the cops applied tear gas and resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse the mob.  

As the law & order situation came under control, the police conducted a flag march in the city, in a bid to keep peace and harmony among the denizens.

Response from the Police and the concerned outfits regarding the incident is yet to be obtained.
