Police personnel barred from sharing photos, videos from sensitive locations

Bhubaneswar, Sep 20: Police personnel deployed at sensitive locations in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have been prohibited from taking or sharing photographs and videos on social media without prior permission from the competent authority.

The directive was issued by the Commissionerate Police following reports that some personnel had been posting videos related to their duties, deployment locations and workplaces on social media and other public platforms.

According to the order, some of these posts had revealed sensitive information, including details of security arrangements and the locations where personnel were deployed. Such disclosures, it said, could create security vulnerabilities and potentially pose challenges to future security arrangements.

The directive specifically covers personnel posted at vital and sensitive installations, including Lok Bhavan, Lok Seva Bhawan, Shri Lingaraj Temple, the Odisha Legislative Assembly, the Reserve Bank of India, the Orissa High Court, armouries and other sensitive establishments.

Personnel deployed at these locations have been instructed not to take photographs or record videos using any electronic device, regardless of the purpose, without prior permission from the competent authority.

The Police Commissioner has directed the in-charges of all major establishments and sensitive locations to closely monitor compliance and take necessary measures to prevent such practices.

The directive further warned that any violation would be viewed seriously, with appropriate action to be taken against personnel found breaching the instructions in accordance with applicable rules.
