New Delhi, Sep 21: The 'Namo Yuva Run,' a key event organized by the BJP to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 75th birthday on September 17, is expected to witness over 10 lakh young participants across 75 locations nationwide.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) had on September 7 revealed that the grand initiative would emphasize nationwide fitness and social awareness.
Speaking at a press conference held at the BJP headquarters, BJYM President and MP Tejasvi Surya shared that the run would be organized under the theme "Nasha Mukt Bharat" (Drug-Free India).
"Under the leadership of PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, India has successfully led a campaign against drugs over the past decade," said Surya.
"This run is not only about promoting fitness, but also about empowering our youth to combat the destructive force of addiction, which harms individuals and threatens national security," he added.
Surya also emphasized that each location will host 10,000 to 15,000 participants, making it the largest participatory run in the country.
Actor and fitness icon Milind Soman has been named as the event's brand ambassador and will also be part of the campaign.
"Milind Soman has been my idol since my high school days. He continues to be the fittest Indian and serves as a role model for the youth of India. However, above all, Prime Minister Modi is the greatest inspiration for our young generation," Surya remarked.
The BJYM leader also connected the issue of drugs to broader security concerns, such as narco-terrorism, cross-border smuggling, and financing of Naxal activities.
He highlighted that in the past decade, India has greatly strengthened its enforcement efforts, seizing over 24 lakh kg of narcotics between 2014 and 2024, a sharp increase from just 3.6 lakh kg in the preceding decade.
"In the past year alone, 10 lakh kg of drugs have been seized and destroyed," he added.
The 'Namo Yuva Run' is set to be flagged off on Sunday, uniting millions of young Indians in a coordinated nationwide call for fitness, discipline, and a drug-free future.
