New Delhi, May 28: Amidst a rapidly changing national and international landscape, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to chair a crucial meeting of the Union Cabinet on Wednesday.
As per reports, the high-level meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. at PM Modi’s official residence and will discuss key policy and security matters in light of the changing situation both in the country and around the world.
Notably, the last Cabinet meeting was held on May 14, where the government approved the setting up of a sixth semiconductor plant in Uttar Pradesh as part of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).
The new plant will be built as a partnership between HCL and the global electronics company Foxconn. It will be located near the upcoming Jewar Airport in the YEIDA (Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority) area.
The plant is designed to produce 20,000 wafers every month and has the capacity to make 36 million units each month. It will manufacture display driver chips, which are essential for mobile phones, laptops, PCs, automobiles, and many other digital devices.
With five other plants already being built, this new approval strengthens India's goal of becoming a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing.
It is worth mentioning that before this, the Cabinet met on April 30, just after the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.
The meeting focused on internal security, with PM Modi stressing a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and calling for a full review of the government's response plans.
