New Delhi, Aug 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 81st birth anniversary.
Taking to his official ‘X’ handle, PM Modi wrote, "On his birth anniversary today, my tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji."
It is worth noting that Rajiv Gandhi became India’s Prime Minister in 1984, following the assassination of his mother, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At just 40 years old, he was the youngest person to hold the office in the country’s history.
He served as Prime Minister until the 1989 general elections, after which he became the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He stepped down from the role in December 1990, just six months before he was tragically assassinated in a brutal terrorist attack.
