Cuttack, Oct 7: The city of Cuttack, often referred to as the 'City of Brotherhood', is slowly returning to normalcy following recent disturbances. Efforts are ongoing at multiple levels to restore calm and bring regular life back on track, with improved law and order reported in several areas.
More than 24 hours have passed since curfew was imposed in the city to control the unrest. Authorities have confirmed a noticeable improvement in the situation. High-ranking police officials, including DGP W.B. Khurania and Police Commissioner S. Debadatta Singh, are currently stationed in Cuttack to oversee operations and ensure peace is maintained. The entire city remains under heavy police deployment.
Meanwhile, the internet shutdown, which began at 7 PM on Sunday, has been extended by another 24 hours until 7 PM on Tuesday. The Home Department acted on the recommendation of the District Collector to continue the suspension of internet services as a preventive measure.
Police have launched a crackdown on those involved in the recent violence, including attacks on law enforcement personnel. Commissioner Singh stated that eight individuals had been arrested by Monday evening, with more arrests expected in the coming days. Authorities are using CCTV footage, drone surveillance, and other video evidence to identify and apprehend the miscreants.
The current curfew will remain in effect until 10 AM on Tuesday. A review meeting is scheduled at that time, during which a decision will be made regarding any further extension. However, Commissioner Singh noted that if the situation remains peaceful, the curfew may not be extended further.
