Delhi, May 14: As ceasefire continues between India & Pakistan following a violent confrontation for days, Pakistan government wrote to government of India on Wednesday regarding the backlog on the Indus Water Treaty.
The Ministry of Water Resources, Pakistan has appealed to the Jal Shakti Ministry of India to reconsider the Indian government's decision to revamp the suspension on the Indus Waters Treaty.
Foreseeing an acute water crisis ahead with the onset of scorching summer, Pakistan today reached out to India. “Syed Ali Murtaza, Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources, wrote a letter to the Secretary of India’s Ministry of Jal Shakti a few days ago. In the letter, an appeal was made to reconsider the decision of putting the IWT in abeyance," an official of Jal Shakti, India said.
Worth mentioning, the Indus Water Treaty was put in abeyance based on a decision of the cabinet committee on security (CCS) on April 23. It was resolved after the Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 men with no cause.
“We will not give them a single drop of water, come what may," Jal Shakti minister CR Patil vowed. Meanwhile, PM Modi on his address to the nation underlined the Indus Water Treaty and made it clear to Pakistan that blood and water won’t flow together. With it, he warned Pakistan that the backlog on the Indus Water Treaty will continue till Pakistan ends terrorism in all forms and stop harbouring terror and terrorists’ dens in its estate.
