Phulbani, Nov 2: With Cyclone Murasu approaching, the Kandhamal district administration has stepped up preparedness measures and announced a two-day closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres across the district.
According to the district administration, all government and private schools, along with Anganwadi centres, will remain closed on the 3rd and 4th in view of the possible impact of the cyclone. The District Collector has issued the directive as a precautionary measure amid forecasts of heavy rainfall.
The development comes shortly after Cyclone Arnab caused significant damage across several districts of southern Odisha. Ganjam witnessed flooding, while Gajapati and Kandhamal reported landslide-like situations. Several other districts in the region also suffered considerable damage.
As the region continues to recover from the impact of the previous cyclone, another weather system, named Murasu, is approaching. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reportedly indicated that the cyclone is likely to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh.
In view of the possibility of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions, the Kandhamal administration has taken precautionary steps to ensure the safety of students and children.
The two-day closure order will remain in effect on the 3rd and 4th, covering all government and private educational institutions as well as Anganwadi centres across the district.
