Mock Parliament on ‘Democracy vs Anarchy’ to be held in New Delhi on October 30

New Delhi, October 29: Citizens for Democracy will organise a mock parliament on the theme‘Democracy vs Anarchy’at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi on October 30, beginning at 10:30 am.

The event will bring together young participants from different parts of the country, who will simulate parliamentary proceedings and assume the roles of prominent political leaders to debate recent political developments and key democratic and constitutional issues facing India.

The discussions will focus on the independence and credibility of democratic institutions, parliamentary decorum, political accountability, transparency in the electoral process and the role of protests in a democracy. Participants will also deliberate on contemporary issues, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the role of the Election Commission, allegations of ‘vote theft’ and recent protests. The distinction between democratic dissent and anarchy is also expected to feature prominently in the debates.

A key highlight of the programme will be young participants portraying senior political leaders from both the ruling side and the Opposition. Through a simulated parliamentary session involving questions, arguments and counterarguments, they will present diverse perspectives on the country's current political landscape.

The initiative aims to familiarise young people with the functioning of parliamentary democracy and provide them with a platform to engage in informed discussions on democratic values, constitutional institutions, parliamentary traditions and political accountability. It also seeks to encourage critical thinking, constructive debate and a deeper understanding of the principles and responsibilities that underpin a democratic system.
