Srinagar, July 9: A new batch of 7,579 pilgrims on Wednesday set out from Jammu to the Kashmir Valley to undertake the Amarnath Yatra 2025, bringing the total number of pilgrims who have performed the yatra in the past six days to over 1.11 lakh.

According to officials, another batch of 7,579 yatris departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas today in two escorted convoys bound for the Kashmir Valley.

The first convoy, comprising 133 vehicles and carrying 3,031 Yatris, left at 3:25 a.m. for the Baltal base camp. The second convoy, consisting of 169 vehicles with 4,548 Yatris on board, departed at 3:40 a.m. for the Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp.

Officials from the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), which manages the annual pilgrimage, stated that along with the Yatris arriving at Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu, a large number of pilgrims are also heading straight to Baltal and Nunwan (Pahalgam) for on-spot registration to join the Yatra.

On the other hand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours, with chances of isolated heavy showers or thunderstorms in some areas during this time.

Authorities have taken strong security measures to ensure the safety of this year’s Amarnath Yatra, especially after the tragic April 22 attack in which Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow after targeting them based on their faith.

To strengthen security, 180 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) have been deployed, adding to the presence of the Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB, and local police. All transit camps along the route to the two base camps, as well as the entire path from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu to the cave shrine, are under tight security.

Notably, this year, the Yatra began on July 3 and will last for 38 days, ending on August 9. The end date matches the festivals of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
