Orissa HC Grants Bail to Bhimsen Tudu in Chandrika Hembram Death Case

Bhubaneswar, September 3: The Orissa High Court has granted bail to former OT&AS trainee Bhimsen Prasad Tudu, who was arrested in connection with the alleged abetment of suicide of medical student Chandrika Hembram.

Tudu, who had been in judicial custody since June 13, was granted bail against two sureties of Rs 50,000 each.

His counsel told the court that police had completed their interrogation and filed the chargesheet, making further custody unnecessary.

Chandrika Hembram died by suicide on June 4, with her body recovered from the Kathajodi river in Odisha’s Barang area. Her family subsequently accused Tudu of being responsible for circumstances leading to her death.

Police alleged that Tudu had a relationship with Chandrika and had assured her of marriage, but later refused to marry her. He was arrested from Mayurbhanj on June 13 after reportedly going missing following registration of the case.

After his arrest, Odisha government has suspended Tudu from government service.
