New Delhi, August 11: Senior opposition leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, and others marched from Parliament towards the Election Commission (EC) office to protest the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, alleging “vote theft.” Police stopped them midway at Transport Bhawan, prompting MPs to sit on the road, raise slogans, and display placards such as “SIR + Vote Theft = Murder of Democracy.”
Wearing white caps marked with a red cross on “SIR,” leaders from Congress, DMK, TMC, SP, RJD, and Left parties demanded the rollback of the revision exercise. Some MPs, including Mahua Moitra and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, climbed barricades in defiance.
The opposition claims the SIR is aimed at disenfranchising voters ahead of Bihar’s polls and has caused repeated disruptions in Parliament since July 21. The EC has denied allegations of collusion, while opposition leaders have sought a meeting with the Commission to discuss the issue.
