Sambalpur, April 1: Vigilance officials on Tuesday arrested OPHWC Deputy Manager Bidyut Ranjan Bhol on charges of possessing disproportionate assets.
The accused, posted in the Odisha Police Housing and Welfare Corporation (OPHWC), Sambalpur Division, was apprehended near Sambalpur railway station while allegedly returning home after collecting bribes. During interception, cash worth ₹5.18 lakh was seized from his possession.
Following the arrest, Vigilance teams carried out simultaneous raids at multiple locations, including Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, Ganjam and Bhanjanagar. Searches at his residence in OPHWC Colony, Rasulgarh, led to the recovery of an additional ₹5.41 lakh.
Raids at his sister’s house in Chandrasekharpur unearthed two large trunks filled with cash, from which ₹34.81 lakh was seized. In total, cash amounting to ₹48.79 lakh was recovered during the operation.
Apart from cash, officials also seized 1 kg 140 grams of gold from his possession. Further investigation revealed that the accused owned 29 plots in different locations, including Jatni and Berhampur.
Sambalpur Vigilance SP P.K. Dwivedi said a detailed probe is underway to ascertain the extent of assets amassed by the accused. Bhol is set to be produced before the court.
