New Delhi, May 8: The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday clarified that a fake notice was being shared in its name, falsely saying that all exams were cancelled because of a "war-like situation" in the country and telling students to go home.
Taking to its official ‘X’ handle, the UGC said, "A fabricated public notice is being circulated under the name of UGC, claiming that all exams are cancelled due to a war situation and advising students to return home. UGC confirms this notice is fake. There are no such directions from UGC."
It further added that, "All official updates are available only on the UGC website and its official social media channels. Spreading such misinformation is a punishable offence. Don't fall for fake information. Stay alert. Follow only official UGC sources."
This clarification came after India carried out precision strikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
As part of the operation, nine terrorist sites were successfully targeted. The strikes were carried out to take revenge for the victims of the Pahalgam attack and to eliminate top leaders of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) who were planning attacks in India.
This is India’s biggest military action inside Pakistan in more than 50 years.
However, just a few hours after the operation, Pakistan broke the Ceasefire Agreement by firing artillery in the Bhimber Gali area of Jammu and Kashmir. According to defence officials, the Indian Army responded in a calm and measured way.
