‘Operation Sindoor’ aftermath: Amritsar Airport completely shut until further notice

Amritsar (Punjab), May 8: Following ‘Operation Sindoor’ carried out by Indian Armed Forces against Pakistan, several major cities in northern India have been put on high alert.

As part of the increased security, Amritsar Airport has been closed until further notice, police said. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP-2) Sirivennela, 21 airports in North and North-Western India will remain closed until May 10, and no flights will take off or land during this time.

“We were told that all flights must be cancelled and the airport needs to be closed,” said police.

“The entire airport is shut until further notice. According to the central government, 21 airports in North and Northwestern India will stay closed until May 10. No flights will operate from here,” said an official.

SpiceJet on Wednesday announced that it had cancelled all flights to and from six airports in northern India. The cancellations were made after the airports were closed due to increased security following Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.

In a travel advisory posted on social media platform X, SpiceJet said that the airports in Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Kandla, and Dharamshala are currently closed. All flights to and from these cities will be suspended until 5:29 am IST on May 10.

Earlier, IndiGo cancelled its flights in 11 cities across northern, northwestern, and central India until May 10, following instructions from aviation authorities about airport closures.

In its travel advisory, IndiGo announced that flights to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot have been cancelled until 5:29 am IST on May 10.

It is worth mentioning that the Indian Armed Forces launched ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed. Altogether, nine (9) sites were targeted in which more than 80 terrorists were neutralized.
