Bhubaneswar, August 29:Odisha government is set to come down heavily against the contraband peddlers since the Excise Department is going to initiate a violent drive i.e ‘Operation Prahar’ against the organized crimes relating to excise items.
According to Law Minister Prithwivraj Harichandan, the ‘Operation Prahar’ will check the consumption, smuggling, and sale of drugs and other intoxicants in all cities.
A high-level meeting chaired by Harichandan on Thursday drew up the roadmap of the ‘Operation Prahar’, which is going to be implemented from September 1.
The meeting was attended by Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, senior police officials, Excise Department officials, and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials.
The Special Task Force (STF), Excise Department, NCB, and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation will jointly work on the ‘Operation Prahar’ to make the Capital City free from Drug menace.
The Minister during the resolve directed the authorities to arrest drug traffickers and impose strict laws, including the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) section and CrPC 110 (BNSS-129) section, to curb the menace.
As a momentum to this effect, the government will set up Model Drug Control Units in district- level to enforce the new resolve for zero drug menace, the Minister said.
