Bhubaneswar, October 4: The Odisha Police has executed 1,448 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) and initiated proceedings against 1,012 persons under Section 129 of the BNSS under “Operation Daman” launched by the police administration across Odisha to drive fear among criminals and anti-social elements and deter illegal activities ahead of the festive seasons.
According to the State Police Headquarters, the operation was being carried out under the direction of DGP Vinaytosh Mishra through coordinated efforts of district police, Commissionerate Police, Railway Police and other units.
During the drive, 89 cases under NDPS were registered and 109 persons were arrested. Police seized around 8.13 tonnes of ganja, destroyed 19,387 ganja plants, and seized 394.645 grams of brown sugar and 1,066 bottles of cough syrup.
The crackdown on illegal liquor also yielded significant results, with 1,707 Excise cases being registered and 140 persons being arrested. Police seized 10,298.24 litres of illicit country liquor, 2,922.409 litres of foreign liquor and 1,092.54 litres of Aska-40. Besides, 800 kg of fermented wash and 81 litres of Mahuli liquor were seized.
Police also registered 46 gambling cases and arrested 67 persons in this connection. Rs 4.36 lakh in cash was also seized from the possession of the accused. In cases relating to forcible collection of donations, 16 cases were registered, 12 persons arrested, and Rs 10,520 in cash seized.
In the crackdown on illegal arms and explosives, police registered six cases and seized five firearms, including one revolver, four rounds of ammunition, one magazine, two empty cartridges, 2.5 kg of gunpowder and two swords.
The operation also targeted organised crime, with seven cases registered and 18 persons arrested.
To prevent the movement of illegal drugs, liquor, weapons and other prohibited items, police conducted 1,830 blocking and border-sealing operations across the state. Checking was also intensified on inter-district and inter-State routes.
