Chandigarh, July 10: In a tragic and shocking incident on the day of Guru Purnima—a day meant to celebrate the sacred bond between teacher and student—a school principal was allegedly stabbed to death by two of his students at a school in Hisar district, Haryana.
The incident occurred on Thursday at Kartar Memorial Senior Secondary School in Bass village, located in the Narnaund subdivision. According to police, the two accused students—one in Class 11 and the other in Class 12—attacked director-cum-principal Jagbir Singh Pannu with a knife inside the school premises, reportedly over repeated reprimands regarding their haircuts and lack of discipline.
Witnesses said the students launched the attack during school hours, stabbing the principal multiple times. Staff members rushed Pannu to a private hospital in Hisar, but doctors were unable to save him. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Initial police investigations suggest that the principal had been advising the students to adhere to school grooming and discipline standards. Upset over the repeated scolding, the minors allegedly brought a knife to school and carried out the fatal attack.
"The exact motive and full details will become clearer after the post-mortem report and further investigation," said a senior police official, adding that CCTV footage is being reviewed and eyewitness statements are being recorded.
Following the incident, both students fled the scene. While their identities have been confirmed, authorities have withheld their names due to their minor status.
The gruesome act has plunged the village into mourning and disbelief, especially as it occurred on Guru Purnima, a day traditionally observed with reverence for teachers. Locals expressed shock and sorrow, struggling to comprehend how such a tragedy could unfold within the sanctity of a school.
Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the absconding students, and a case of murder has been registered. The investigation is ongoing.
